I feel for the parents of Trayvon Martin. I don't know how it feels to lose a child, let alone have the entire country come out and support the transformation of the laws that allowed George Zimmerman to continue to walk as a free man. I have attended the rallies, I have worn my hoodie faithfully for the last two weeks, in support of the changing of the Stand Your Ground law. But what I don't understand is why, no how, people can be so insensitive to this child's mourning parents.
We all are probably looking for the best way to show our support on a personal level with the family. Hence the following report:
O’FALLON, IL (KTVI) – A Palm Sunday church service took on a different meaning in O’Fallon, Illinois. Trayvon Martin’s death was on the minds of many in the congregation.
No charges have been filed against a neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, who admitted he shot and killed Martin in Sanford, Florida in February.
In an effort to show solidarity and support to Trayvon’s family, members of New Life in Christ iinter-denominational church brought Skittles and hooded sweatshirts to services.
Bishop Geoffrey Dudley Sr. says, ”I want people to walk saying I participated in a symbol of justice. I brought, however trivial as it may seem, a pack of Skittles, a hoodie, and my church is going to ship it off to Sanford, Florida. I participated in making my voice heard,”
This is CRAZY. Do we honestly think his mother wants to receive Skittles and hoodies? How disrespectful. These are the very things that her son lost his life, why would you send her symbols of a tragedy? It would have been more beneficial to send a signed petition in support. Go to the website www.Change.org, and sign the petition already going. Do something proactive.
Now, what the hell is this woman going to do with all those hoodies? Her son was an only child. People we have to think before we act. Pastor, you all dropped the ball on this one. If I were his mother, I would ship that mess right back to you. SMH
