If you want to act professional, you should dress professional. I thought people only said that to justify not being able to wear jeans to work during the week; but I actually found that to be a true statement. When you're dressed to the nines, you feel a bit more confident about the task you're about to complete. Not saying I couldn't perform just as well with jeans on, but I see there point. So when I walk into a home that is cluttered to the point of me wanting to call "Hoarders", I realize that a cluttered space could have the same effect.
I do laundry several times a week, and for some reason I will wash the clothes, fold the clothes, but never put the clothes away. When mail comes through our slot, it often gets tossed on the table in the small mountain of papers that have rested on the table and never left. I'm far from a hoarder because I'll throw anything away, quick. I just get to a point were I just don't feel like doing anything and that includes cleaning. From the dishes to vacuuming, I will wait until I have absolutely no choice but to clean up.
I started a business based on this same notation. How many people just don't feel like doing things. I will admit that there were times I would actually pay somebody to do the things I didn't want to do. Grocery shopping, picking up the dry cleaning, picking my mother up from the airport; you know those things you mean to do but find you don't have the time or energy.
I have been successful in organizing, light housekeeping, misc errands, and other services that people have to get done but don't have enough time in the day to do. If you find your space cluttered, give me a call and we can work out a personal plan to keep your space clean and your mind free. After all, your environment is the #1 thing to dictate your attitude.
